Is there something more difficult than writing the very first entry of a blog? Not my first blog though but it is certainly my most important one to date. Writing you about Coffee Hill Exports is probably the best way to start. Coffee Hill Exports was born as a dream, a dream of sharing a treasure from my home country for the world. We all know about the quality of Colombian coffee, don’t we? How many times have you bought a bag of “Colombian coffee” to later discovering it is not what you were expecting to be? It happens a lot and the reason is simple: Big coffee roasters around the world buy green Colombian coffee beans in bulk to roast it themselves, probably mixing some percentage of beans from other regions to lower the cost or probably just mass producing it. Coffee is like wine, the bigger the production, the less care you can have over quality.

My family and I learned this the hard way. When I first came to live in the US as a student in the mid-90s I brought coffee with me, probably just because I wanted to have a little piece of my country with me.  It became a regular thing to bring pounds off coffee with me each time I traveled back from home. Some years later while living ins Colombia, it was my family who lived in the US. Same story: Flying every time with half a suitcase worth of coffee for them. This game has been going on for years until one day talking with my sister about this (she was living in Boston at that time), we asked ourselves why she couldn’t get good quality coffee from Colombia easily. Well, we decided to investigate a little more about this matter and saw a big opportunity for coffee lovers in the US. We began dreaming with the idea of exporting from Colombia superior Colombian coffees and testing ourselves as entrepreneurs.
